How to Change the Multiline Style in AutoCAD?

Published in AutoCAD Multiline Style 3 mins read

To change the multiline style in AutoCAD, you use the MLSTYLE command to access the Multiline Styles dialog box, select the desired style, and then modify its properties.

Changing multiline styles allows you to customize the appearance of multilines, which are objects consisting of parallel lines. This is crucial for drafting standards, representing different types of walls, fences, or other parallel elements in your drawings.

Here are the steps to modify an existing multiline style:

  1. Launch the Multiline Styles Dialog Box:

    • At the Command prompt, enter MLSTYLE.
    • Press Enter. This opens the Multiline Styles dialog box.
  2. Select the Style:

    • In the Multiline Styles dialog box, select the style name you want to change from the list of available styles.
  3. Access Element Properties:

    • Click the Element Properties button. This opens the Modify Multiline Styles dialog box, where you can adjust the specific settings of the selected style.
  4. Modify Settings:

    • In the Modify Multiline Styles dialog box, change the settings as needed. This dialog box allows you to control various aspects of the multiline, such as:
      • Elements: Add or remove individual lines within the multiline and set their offset, color, and linetype.
      • Caps: Define how the start and end points of the multiline are capped (e.g., straight lines, arcs, inner/outer arcs).
      • Joints: Control how corners are displayed.
      • Background Fill: Add a background fill color to the multiline.
  5. Confirm Changes:

    • Click OK in the Modify Multiline Styles dialog box to save the changes you made to the style properties.
    • Click OK in the Multiline Styles dialog box to close it.

Any new multilines drawn using this style will reflect the updated settings. Existing multilines drawn with this style may automatically update depending on your AutoCAD configuration and drawing setup, or you may need to use the MLEDIT command or other modification tools to apply the changes to existing objects.
