How to Change Materials in Autodesk

Published in Autodesk Materials 2 mins read

Changing materials in Autodesk software typically involves accessing the Material Browser and editing the properties of an existing material definition.

To modify the properties of a material within your Autodesk project, follow these steps, which involve using the Material Browser and Editor:

  1. Access the Material Browser: Navigate to the Manage tab in the ribbon. In the Settings panel, click the Materials button. This action opens the Material Browser window, which lists all materials available in your current project.

  2. Select the Material: In the Material Browser window, locate and select the specific material you wish to change from the list of project materials. Clicking on the material name will load its properties into the Material Editor panel within the same window.

  3. Edit Appearance Properties: In the Material Editor panel, click on the Appearance tab. This tab contains settings related to how the material looks when rendered or displayed in realistic views, such as color, texture, reflectivity, and transparency. Here, you can make the desired modifications to the material's visual characteristics.

  4. Save the Changes: After you have finished adjusting the properties on the Appearance tab (or other tabs like Graphics or Identity), click the Apply button. This saves your modifications to the selected material within the project. You can then close the Material Browser or continue editing other materials.

This process allows you to customize existing materials to better suit the specific visual requirements of your project.
