How Do You Select and Move in Autodesk Sketchbook?

Published in Autodesk Sketchbook 2 mins read

To select and move content in Autodesk Sketchbook, you primarily work with layers and a transform tool. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Select Your Layer(s):

    • Open the Layer Editor.
    • Select the layer(s) containing the content you want to move. You can select multiple layers:
      • Consecutive Layers: Select the first layer, then hold Shift and select the last layer in the range.
      • Non-Consecutive Layers: Select the first layer, then hold Ctrl (or Cmd on macOS) and select each additional layer you want to include.
  2. Activate the Transform Tool:

    • Select the Transform tool icon (it typically looks like a bounding box with handles) from the toolbar.
  3. Move, Scale, and Rotate:

    • A puck (a circular handle) will appear on your canvas. Tap and drag this puck to:
      • Move the selected content to a new position.
      • Scale the selected content (by dragging the puck further from or closer to the center).
      • Rotate the selected content (by dragging the puck in a circular motion).

Important Considerations:

  • Layer Order: Moving layers will change their stacking order. A layer higher in the layer list will appear in front of layers lower in the list.
  • Locking Layers: If a layer is locked, you won't be able to select or move it. Ensure the layer is unlocked in the Layer Editor.
  • Transform Options: The Transform tool might have additional options depending on the version of Sketchbook you are using. These options can allow for skewing, perspective adjustments, or other more advanced transformations. Look for options typically available in the toolbar or a context menu when the transform tool is selected.
  • Undo: If you make a mistake, use the Undo function (typically Ctrl+Z or Cmd+Z) to revert to the previous state.
