What is the meaning of PHEV?

Published in Automotive Technology 1 min read

PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle.

PHEVs are a type of hybrid vehicle that combines two sources of power:

  • Electric Motor: PHEVs use batteries to power an electric motor.
  • Internal Combustion Engine: They also have another fuel source, such as gasoline or diesel, to power an internal combustion engine or other propulsion source.

This combination allows PHEVs to operate solely on electric power for shorter distances, reducing emissions and fuel consumption, and then switch to the internal combustion engine for longer trips.
