Where to Inject B12?

  • Vastus Lateralis (Thigh): The middle third of this thigh muscle is the recommended site for self-injection due to its size and ease of access.
  • Deltoid (Upper Arm): This muscle in the upper arm is another option, but requires more precise injection technique. It's often preferable when a caregiver assists.
  • Dorsogluteal (Buttock): While an option, this site is generally less preferred for self-injection due to the risk of hitting the sciatic nerve. It’s often used when a healthcare professional administers the injection.

Alternative B12 Administration Methods

While intramuscular (IM) injection is common, alternatives exist:

  • Oral Vitamin B12: This is available as tablets or a spray, and requires a higher daily dose (at least 1000mcg) compared to injections.
