How do you use baby bath cream?

Published in Baby bathing 2 mins read

Baby bath cream is typically used like a gentle soap to cleanse your baby's skin during bath time. Here's how to use it effectively:

  1. Prepare for Bath Time: Gather everything you need beforehand, including a baby bathtub (or sink lined with a towel), a washcloth, baby bath cream, a towel, and clean clothes. Ensure the water temperature is warm, not hot (around 100°F or 38°C).

  2. Wet Your Baby's Skin: Gently wet your baby's skin with the warm water. You can use a washcloth to do this.

  3. Apply the Bath Cream: Squeeze a small amount of baby bath cream onto a wet washcloth or directly onto your hand. A little goes a long way.

  4. Gently Wash Your Baby: Use the washcloth or your hand to gently wash your baby's skin, paying attention to areas like the neck, underarms, diaper area, and between the toes. Avoid getting soap in the baby's eyes.

  5. Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse your baby thoroughly with warm water to remove all traces of the bath cream. Make sure no residue remains on their skin.

  6. Pat Dry and Moisturize (if needed): Immediately after rinsing, gently pat your baby's skin dry with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing, which can irritate the skin.

  7. Apply Baby Lotion (If Needed): Most newborns don't need lotion after every bath. However, if your baby has dry skin, apply a small amount of unscented baby moisturizer specifically to the dry areas. Massage gently.

Important Considerations:

  • Frequency: You don't need to bathe your newborn every day. 2-3 times a week is often sufficient, especially in the early months. Over-bathing can dry out their skin.
  • Ingredients: Choose a baby bath cream that is specifically formulated for babies, is hypoallergenic, fragrance-free (or very lightly scented), and tear-free. Avoid products with harsh chemicals, dyes, or parabens.
  • Test a small area: Before using any new product on your baby’s entire body, test a small area of skin to check for any allergic reactions or irritation.
  • Safety First: Never leave your baby unattended in the bathtub, even for a moment.
