Do babies have fingerprints?

Published in Baby Development 1 min read

Yes, babies do have fingerprints! They start forming in the womb during the second trimester of pregnancy, around week 23. While they may not be fully developed at birth, fingerprints become distinct and unique within the first few months of life. By the time a baby is 6 months old, they usually have a suitable print for identification, and by 12-18 months, almost all babies have fully formed fingerprints.

It's interesting to note that fingerprint technology is now being used to track vaccinations and help find missing children. However, there are concerns about using this technology on babies, especially regarding privacy and ethical implications.
