How Do You Put a Piping Tip in a Piping Bag?

Published in Baking 2 mins read

To properly put a piping tip in a piping bag, you'll generally need a coupler. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Prepare the Piping Bag: Snip off the tip of the piping bag. Start small; you only need to cut enough so that the larger piece of the coupler can fit through. It's better to cut too little than too much.

  2. Insert the Coupler Base: Place the larger of the two coupler pieces (the base) into the tip of the piping bag, pushing it down until the threaded part of the coupler protrudes slightly from the opening you created.

  3. Attach the Piping Tip: Place your desired piping tip over the protruding threaded part of the coupler base.

  4. Secure with the Coupler Ring: Screw the smaller, ring-shaped piece of the coupler (the ring) over the piping tip and onto the base. Tighten it to hold the tip firmly in place.

  5. Fill the Bag: Fold the top of the piping bag over your hand, creating a cuff, and fill the bag with your icing or filling. Don't overfill – about two-thirds full is usually best.

  6. Close the Bag: Unfold the cuff and twist the top of the bag to seal it. Apply gentle pressure to start piping.

Changing Piping Tips:

To change piping tips, simply unscrew the smaller ring piece of the coupler, swap out the tips, and screw the ring back in place. This allows you to use different tips with the same bag of icing.
