Which Type of Lump is Normal?

Published in Benign Breast Lumps 1 min read

Many types of lumps can be benign (non-cancerous). One common example is a fibroadenoma.

Understanding Normal Lumps: Fibroadenomas

Fibroadenomas are a common type of benign breast lump. They are described as:

  • Solid: They have a firm consistency, unlike cysts which may feel more fluid-filled.
  • Smooth: Their surface is usually even and not bumpy.
  • Firm: They have a definite, palpable texture.
  • Noncancerous: They are not cancerous and pose no threat to health.

Fibroadenomas are most often found in individuals in their 20s and 30s, though they can occur at any age. They represent the most common benign breast lump.

While fibroadenomas are considered normal in the sense that they are not cancerous, it's crucial to remember that any new lump should be evaluated by a medical professional. A doctor can determine the nature of the lump through examination and possibly imaging tests.
