How to Make a Binder Divider Tab?

Published in Binder Organization 2 mins read

Creating simple binder divider tabs is easy and requires just a few common supplies. You can quickly organize your notes and documents using this straightforward method.

Simple Steps to Create Your Own Binder Tabs

Based on a practical method, here's how you can make a binder divider tab using paper:

  1. Prepare the Tab Material: Cut a rectangular piece from a sheet of colored paper. Aim for a size that measures approximately 1.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall. Colored paper helps the tabs stand out.
  2. Fold and Label: Take the cut rectangle and fold it in half lengthwise. Once folded, label the tab using a pen or marker. Write the subject, topic, or category name clearly so you can easily identify the section.
  3. Attach to Divider Page: Secure the folded and labeled tab to the edge of a piece of 3-hole-punched paper or cardstock. Use tape to firmly attach the tab along the edge of the page that will stick out from the binder. Ensure it's aligned correctly so it's visible when the binder is closed.

Using slightly thicker paper or cardstock for the divider page itself can make the tab more durable. Clear packing tape can offer a strong bond and even add a little protection to the paper tab.

This simple process allows you to create custom tabs for any binder, helping you stay organized for school, work, or personal projects.
