Who discovered lipoproteins?

Published in Biochemistry 1 min read

Michel Macheboeuf is credited with the discovery of lipoproteins in 1929.

Macheboeuf proposed that lipids circulate in the bloodstream bound to proteins. This groundbreaking observation revealed the existence of lipoprotein complexes. Later research identified that the specific protein involved was an α-globulin, which is now known as high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

In summary, while other scientists have contributed to our understanding of lipoproteins, Michel Macheboeuf laid the foundation by discovering their existence.
