How do you measure your sit?

Published in Body Measurement 2 mins read

You measure your sit by finding the distance between the indentations your sit bones make when you sit on a flat surface. Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Prepare a flat surface: Place a piece of corrugated cardboard on a flat chair. This will allow your sit bones to make a clear impression.

  2. Take a seat: Sit on the cardboard with your feet slightly elevated. This encourages your sit bones to make a deeper impression.

  3. Leave an impression: Sit for a sufficient amount of time to leave noticeable indentations. A few minutes should suffice.

  4. Identify the sit bone points: Stand up and carefully examine the cardboard. Locate the two deepest indentations – these are where your sit bones made the most contact.

  5. Mark the indentations: Mark the center of each indentation with a point (e.g., with a pen or marker).

  6. Measure the distance: Use a measuring tape to measure the distance between the two points you marked.

  7. Record the measurement: Record the measurement in millimeters. This is the measurement of your sit bone width, or "sit."

This measurement can be useful for selecting the right size bicycle saddle or ergonomic chair. It is important to note that this is a simplified method and more sophisticated techniques might be employed by professionals.
