How are anchor piercings done?

Published in Body Piercing 2 mins read

Anchor piercings, also known as dermal piercings, are done by creating a small pocket beneath the skin to house a dermal anchor. Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Preparation: The piercer will first clean and sterilize the area where the piercing will be placed. They will then mark the exact spot for the anchor.

  2. Creating the Pocket: The piercer uses a dermal punch, which is a small, circular blade, to remove a small circle of skin. This creates an opening for the anchor. Sometimes, a needle may be used to create the pocket.

  3. Inserting the Anchor: The piercer uses dermal forceps or a similar tool to carefully insert the dermal anchor into the pocket created. The anchor has a small base (either footed or round) that is designed to sit beneath the skin's surface.

  4. Securing the Anchor: The base of the anchor is designed to encourage tissue growth, which helps to secure it in place over time.

  5. Attaching the Jewelry: The visible part of the jewelry (the decorative top) is then screwed into the threaded post of the dermal anchor.

  6. Aftercare: Proper aftercare, including regular cleaning with saline solution, is crucial to prevent infection and ensure the piercing heals correctly. The piercer will provide specific instructions for aftercare.
