How to Remove a Nose Pin?

Published in Body Piercing 2 mins read

Removing a nose pin safely usually involves gently manipulating the jewelry to avoid pain or infection. Here's a general guide:

  1. Wash Your Hands: Before touching your nose, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water. This minimizes the risk of introducing bacteria to the piercing.

  2. Identify the Type of Nose Pin: Different nose pins have different closures. Common types include:

    • L-Shaped: This type has a straight post that bends at a 90-degree angle inside the nostril.
    • Nose Bone (Stud): This style has a straight post with a small ball or disc at the end to keep it in place.
    • Nose Screw: This type has a curved post that screws into the piercing.
    • Hoop/Ring: This can be a seamless ring or a captive bead ring.
  3. Removing Specific Types:

    • L-Shaped: Gently pull the pin straight out, carefully maneuvering the bend through the piercing. A slight twist may help.
    • Nose Bone (Stud): Firmly but gently pull the pin straight out. You may feel a slight resistance as the ball passes through the piercing.
    • Nose Screw: Gently twist the pin as you pull it outwards, following the curve of the screw. This can be a bit tricky, so patience is key.
    • Hoop/Ring:
      • Seamless Ring: With clean hands, gently twist the ring to create a small opening and slide the end through the piercing.
      • Captive Bead Ring: Carefully pull the bead out of the ring. You may need pliers if the bead is tight. Once the bead is removed, you can slide the ring out.
  4. Clean the Piercing: After removing the nose pin, clean the piercing with a saline solution to prevent infection.

  5. Follow-Up Care: If you plan to reinsert jewelry, clean the jewelry as well. If you are not reinserting jewelry, continue cleaning the piercing daily until it closes completely.

If you experience significant pain, resistance, or signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus), consult a professional piercer or a medical doctor. Do not force the removal, as this could cause injury or infection.
