How do I turn off the water supply to my boiler?

Published in Boiler Maintenance 1 min read

To turn off the water supply to your boiler, follow the instructions below, depending on your boiler type.

There are typically two types of boiler setups:

  • Combi Boiler (Direct Water Supply): This type of boiler receives water directly from the mains.
  • Boiler with Hot Water Cylinder (Indirect Water Supply): This type utilizes a water storage cistern to supply water to the hot water cylinder.

Steps to Turn Off the Water Supply

Here's how to shut off the water supply based on your boiler system:

  1. Combi Boiler (Direct Water Supply)

    • Locate the main stop valve supplying water to your property. This valve controls the entire water supply to your house.
    • Turn the main stop valve to the "off" position. This will stop the water flow to your boiler.
  2. Boiler with Hot Water Cylinder (Indirect Water Supply)

    • Locate the valve on the pipe entering the hot water cylinder from the water storage cistern.
    • Turn this valve to the "off" position. This will shut off the water supply to the hot water cylinder.
