Where Does White Turmeric Grow?

Published in Botany & Geography 1 min read

White turmeric ( Curcuma zedoaria) is primarily native to South Asia and Southeast Asia.

While originating from these regions, it has also naturalized in other areas:

  • South Asia: Regions like India, Sri Lanka, and surrounding areas.
  • Southeast Asia: Countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
  • Other Regions: White turmeric has also naturalized in some other locations, including Florida in the United States.

Therefore, while South and Southeast Asia represent its original and primary growing regions, it can also be found in other suitable climates where it has been introduced and naturalized.
