How to Put On a Bra Tutorial

Published in Bra Fitting Guide 2 mins read

Learning how to put on a bra correctly ensures comfort and proper support throughout the day.

Step-by-Step Guide to Putting on a Bra

Putting on a bra might seem simple, but a few key steps can help you achieve the best fit.

1. Position the Bra

Begin by slipping your arms through the shoulder straps. Let the band hang around your torso. Some people prefer to clasp the bra first and then pull it around.

2. Fasten the Clasp

Bring the ends of the band together at your back and fasten the hook-and-eye closure. Ensure the band is snug but not uncomfortably tight.

3. Position Your Bust Tissue

Once the bra is fastened, you need to ensure your breast tissue is properly seated in the cups. According to fitting guides, "Step three is the lift and place."

  • Lift and Place: Gently lean forward slightly and reach inside the bra cup with your opposite hand (e.g., use your right hand for the left cup). Gently scoop or lift your breast tissue up and into the cup. Repeat for the other side.

4. Adjust and Check Fit

After lifting and placing, stand upright and make final adjustments.

  • Ensure the underwire is in line with your arm. The wire should sit comfortably in your infra-mammary fold (the crease where your breast meets your chest).
  • Check that the wire is flush underneath your bust and against your ribcage. It should not be sitting on breast tissue.
  • The band should be level all around your body, not riding up in the back.
  • The straps should be adjusted so they are supportive but not digging into your shoulders.

By following these steps, particularly the "lift and place" technique and checking the underwire placement, you can ensure your bra provides optimal support and comfort.
