From 1707 to 1801, the official name of the United Kingdom (specifically the kingdoms of England and Scotland united) was Great Britain.
This name was adopted following the Acts of Union 1707, which formally joined the Kingdom of England and the Kingdom of Scotland into a single sovereign state. This designation remained in effect until the Act of Union 1800, which then unified Great Britain with the Kingdom of Ireland to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.
