What causes Brucella?

Published in Brucellosis Causes 1 min read

Brucella is caused by bacteria from the Brucella species. These bacteria primarily infect animals. Humans get Brucellosis through contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products.

How Humans Acquire Brucella

Humans typically get brucellosis through these ways:

  • Direct Contact with Infected Animals: This can happen through handling infected animals like cattle, swine, goats, sheep, and dogs.
  • Consuming Contaminated Animal Products: Eating or drinking unpasteurized milk, cheese, or other dairy products from infected animals can transmit the bacteria.
  • Inhaling Airborne Agents: In some cases, the bacteria can be inhaled, particularly in environments where infected animals are present.
