How do you clean a flat brush?

Published in Brush Cleaning 2 mins read

Cleaning a flat brush involves removing accumulated hair and debris, then washing and drying the bristles to maintain its quality and effectiveness. Here's a breakdown of the cleaning process:

  1. Remove Hair and Debris:

    • Use a pen, pencil, or comb to carefully slide under the accumulated hair at the base of the bristles. Gently lift and pull the hair away from the brush. Repeat this process until most of the loose hair and debris are removed.
  2. Wash the Bristles:

    • Prepare a bowl of lukewarm water. You can add a small amount of mild shampoo or brush cleaner to the water.
    • Submerge the bristles of the brush completely in the soapy water.
    • Gently swirl the brush in the water to loosen any remaining dirt or product buildup.
    • If necessary, use your fingers to carefully massage the bristles and remove stubborn residue.
  3. Rinse the Brush:

    • Remove the brush from the soapy water and rinse it thoroughly under running water.
    • Ensure all traces of soap are gone from the bristles.
  4. Dry the Brush:

    • Gently squeeze out excess water from the bristles.
    • Pat the brush dry with a clean towel.
    • Reshape the bristles with your fingers.
    • Lay the brush flat on a towel to air dry completely. You can also use a hair dryer on a low, cool setting to speed up the drying process, but avoid high heat, which can damage the bristles.
