To add a quiz in Canvas, follow these steps:

Open Quizzes: In your Canvas course, click on the "Quizzes" link in the Course Navigation menu.

Add Quiz: Click the "+ Quiz" button.

Choose a Quiz Engine: On the "Choose a Quiz Engine" screen, select either "Classic Quizzes" or "New Quizzes". It's important to note that the steps from here on will vary slightly depending on which engine you choose. "New Quizzes" offers more question types and advanced features, while "Classic Quizzes" are the traditional Canvas quizzes. We will proceed with instructions applicable to both.

Edit Quiz Details: Provide the necessary information for your quiz, including:
- Name: Give your quiz a descriptive name.
- Instructions: Provide clear instructions for taking the quiz.
- Quiz Type: (Graded Quiz, Practice Quiz, Survey)
- Assignment Group: Select the appropriate assignment group.
- Shuffle Answers: (Optional) Shuffle the answer options for each question.
- Time Limit: Set a time limit for the quiz.
- Allow Multiple Attempts: (Optional) Allow students to take the quiz more than once.
- Quiz Availability: Set the dates when the quiz will be available.
- Assign to: Assign the quiz to specific students, course sections, or the entire course.

Build Quiz (Add Questions):

For Classic Quizzes: Click the "Questions" tab. Then, click "+ New Question" to add new questions. You can choose from various question types such as multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, essay, etc.

For New Quizzes: Click the "Build" button. Here you can add questions by clicking the plus icon. New Quizzes support multiple question types as well, including categorization, ordering, and hot spot questions.

Save and Publish:
- Save: Click the "Save" button to save your quiz as a draft.
- Save & Publish: Click the "Save & Publish" button to make the quiz available to students. Be sure you have set the availability dates appropriately before publishing.
