How Do I Change My Role in Canvas?

To change a user's role in Canvas, follow these steps:

  1. Open People: Within your Canvas course, click the "People" link in the Course Navigation menu.

  2. Locate User: Use the search field to find the user whose role you want to change. Type their name in the search bar to quickly locate them.

  3. Edit Role: Once you've found the user, click the Options icon (usually three vertical dots or a gear icon) next to their name. From the dropdown menu, select the "Edit Role" link.

  4. Update Role: A window will appear allowing you to choose a new role for the user. Select the desired role from the available options. Finally, save your changes.

Essentially, you navigate to the "People" section, find the user, and use the "Edit Role" option to assign a new role. Only users with appropriate permissions (e.g., instructors, admins) can change user roles.
