How do you power another car battery?

Published in Car Battery Maintenance 1 min read

You can power another car battery using jumper cables connected to a functioning car battery. This process, often called jump-starting, transfers power from the good battery to the dead one.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to safely jump-start a car:

  1. Preparation: Make sure both cars are turned off.
  2. Positive Cable Connection (Dead Battery): Clamp one end of the positive (usually red) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery.
  3. Positive Cable Connection (Good Battery): Have someone hold the other end of the positive cable and connect it to the positive terminal of the good battery.
  4. Negative Cable Connection (Good Battery): Connect one end of the negative (usually black) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the good battery.

It is important to connect the cables in the correct order to avoid sparks or damage to either vehicle's electrical system.
