What do you put in a windscreen?

Published in Car Maintenance 1 min read

You only put windshield washer fluid in the windscreen washer fluid reservoir.

Using anything other than windshield washer fluid can damage your vehicle's wiper and washer system. Here's why:

  • Damage to the System: Other fluids, and even plain water, can corrode or clog the washer fluid reservoir, pump, and hoses. This can lead to expensive repairs.

  • Freezing: Water can freeze in cold weather, potentially cracking the reservoir and blocking the spray nozzles. Windshield washer fluid is formulated with antifreeze agents to prevent freezing.

  • Ineffective Cleaning: Water alone doesn't contain the necessary detergents to effectively remove dirt, grime, insects, and road salt from your windscreen, reducing visibility.

  • Damage to Paint: Some household cleaners or other automotive fluids can damage your car's paint if they come into contact with it.

Therefore, stick to using specifically formulated windshield washer fluid to ensure proper cleaning and prevent damage to your vehicle.
