How to Start a Polo?

Published in Car Operation 2 mins read

Starting the engine of a Volkswagen Polo equipped with a push-button ignition involves a simple two-step process: pressing the brake pedal while simultaneously activating the start button, and then selecting your desired gear.

Starting the Engine

To get your Polo's engine running, the method is straightforward and designed for safety. You must perform two actions together:

  • Press the brake pedal firmly with your foot.
  • Simultaneously press the start/stop button.

Performing these steps together signals to the car's system that you intend to start the engine, ensuring the vehicle is stationary before ignition. Once completed, the engine will start, and the vehicle will be ready for operation.

Selecting Your Gear

After the engine has started, you need to select the appropriate gear to move the vehicle. This is done using the gear selector lever, typically found in the center console.

Here's how to select your gear for movement:

  • To drive forwards: Set the selector lever to 'D' (Drive).
  • To drive backward: Set the selector lever to 'R' (Reverse).
Gear Selection Purpose
D Drive Forward
R Drive Backward

Always ensure your surroundings are clear before selecting a gear and beginning to move the vehicle. Modern Polos often require the brake pedal to be pressed down when shifting out of 'P' (Park) or 'N' (Neutral) and into 'D' or 'R'.

By following these steps – pressing the brake and start button together, then selecting 'D' for forward or 'R' for backward – you can effectively start and prepare your Polo for driving.
