What is a Sustained VT Rate?

Published in Cardiac Arrhythmias 1 min read

A sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) rate is typically between 140 and 200 beats per minute (bpm), although the exact rate can vary. VT is considered sustained when it lasts for 30 seconds or longer, or requires intervention due to hemodynamic instability in less than 30 seconds.

While the most common range is 140-200 bpm, some ventricular tachycardias can be slower or faster than this. The term "sustained" refers to the duration of the arrhythmia, not necessarily the specific rate, although rate contributes to the overall clinical picture. Clinically significant VT requires rapid identification and management.
