Cardiac muscle is exclusively found in the heart. It forms the bulk of the heart wall, enabling it to pump blood throughout the body.
Composition of the Heart Wall
The heart wall is composed of three layers:
- Epicardium (or Visceral Pericardium): The thin outer layer.
- Myocardium: This is the thick middle layer of the heart and consists of cardiac muscle. This layer is responsible for the heart's contractile force.
- Endocardium: The inner layer lining the heart chambers.
Therefore, cardiac muscle is primarily located within the myocardium, which is the substantial, functional part of the heart responsible for its pumping action.
