Purkinje fibers, or Purkyne tissue, are specialized myocardial fibers situated in the inner ventricular walls of the heart, just beneath the endocardium. Their primary function is to rapidly conduct electrical impulses, enabling the coordinated contraction of the heart muscle. This rapid conduction is crucial for efficient and effective pumping of blood throughout the body. Without the Purkinje fibers, the heart's contractions would be disorganized and much less effective.
