Does Golgi Produce Peroxisomes?

Published in Cell Biology 1 min read

No, the Golgi apparatus does not produce peroxisomes.

Peroxisomes are cellular organelles, similar to lysosomes in their enzyme content, but they have a distinct origin. While lysosomes bud off from the Golgi apparatus, peroxisomes originate from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Furthermore, the proteins found within peroxisomes are synthesized in the cytosol, not within the Golgi itself. This difference in origin and protein synthesis pathway clearly distinguishes peroxisomes from organelles derived from the Golgi apparatus.
