How is cGMP made?

Published in cGMP Synthesis 1 min read

Cyclic GMP (cGMP) is synthesized from GTP (guanosine triphosphate) using the enzyme guanylate cyclase (GC). cGMP is also a second messenger for molecules such as atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and the response of rods in the retina to light exposure.

Here's a breakdown:

  • Precursor: Guanosine triphosphate (GTP)
  • Enzyme: Guanylate Cyclase (GC)
  • Product: Cyclic GMP (cGMP)

In essence, GC catalyzes the conversion of GTP to cGMP.
