CFC stands for Chlorofluorocarbons. These are nontoxic, nonflammable chemicals containing atoms of carbon, chlorine, and fluorine. They have been widely used in the past in various applications, including:
- Aerosol sprays
- Blowing agents for foams and packing materials
- Solvents
- Refrigerants
However, CFCs have been found to be harmful to the ozone layer, which protects the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. As a result, their production and use have been phased out in many countries.
