How Do You Label Rooms in Chief Architect?

Published in Chief Architect Labeling 2 mins read

In Chief Architect, room labels are handled automatically and are primarily controlled through specific display layers and text styles.

By default, when you create rooms, Chief Architect automatically generates a label for each. This label is placed on a specific layer within the program.

Understanding Room Labels and Layers

The labeling of rooms in Chief Architect is directly linked to the program's layer system and text style settings.

  • Default Layer: By default, room labels are placed on the Rooms, Labels layer. This is the primary layer controlling the visibility and appearance of the room names themselves.
  • Text Style: The appearance of the room labels (font, size, color, etc.) is determined by the Text Style assigned to that layer. You can modify the text style settings for the Rooms, Labels layer to change how all room names appear throughout your plan.

Reporting Room Area

In addition to the basic room name label, Chief Architect can also display the area of rooms. This is controlled by turning on the display of specific layers related to area reporting.

You can specify how the area of rooms is reported by the program by turning on the display of one or more of these layers:

  • Rooms, Standard Area: Displays the standard calculated area of the room.
  • Rooms, Interior Area: May display an area based on interior dimensions.
  • Rooms, Interior Dimensions: May display the interior dimensions themselves, which can imply the area.

By managing the visibility of the Rooms, Labels layer and the various 'Rooms, Area' layers, you control what information is displayed for each room in your plan.
