The girl who turns into the Moon is Chang'e, a figure from Chinese mythology.
Chang'e is a prominent lunar deity in Chinese culture, often depicted as a beautiful woman residing on the moon. The most popular legend surrounding her involves an elixir of immortality. Her husband, the archer Hou Yi, received the elixir as a reward for shooting down nine of the ten suns that were scorching the Earth.
However, in Hou Yi's absence (or sometimes to prevent a villain from stealing it), Chang'e consumed the elixir herself. This act caused her to float upwards, ultimately landing on the moon. Depending on the version of the myth, she either lives there alone or is accompanied by a jade rabbit.
Her story is a central part of the Mid-Autumn Festival, where families gather to admire the full moon and eat mooncakes in her honor. She is a symbol of beauty, regret, and the unattainable.
