How to Make Chocolate Shapes with Silicone Molds?

Published in Chocolate Making 3 mins read

Making chocolate shapes with silicone molds is a fun and easy way to create delicious treats. Here's how to do it:

Steps to Making Chocolate Shapes

  1. Prepare Your Materials:

    • Silicone chocolate molds (ensure they are clean and dry).
    • Chocolate (use good quality chocolate chips, baking chocolate, or couverture chocolate).
    • Baking pan or tray.
    • Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl.
    • Spatula or spoon.
  2. Melt the Chocolate:

    • Double Boiler Method: Place chocolate in the top of a double boiler over simmering water. Stir occasionally until completely melted and smooth. Avoid getting water into the chocolate, as it can cause it to seize.
    • Microwave Method: Place chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate.
  3. Fill the Molds:

    • Spoon or pour the melted chocolate into the silicone molds, filling each cavity completely.
  4. Remove Air Bubbles:

    • Gently tap the baking pan with the molds on a counter or table several times. This will help release any trapped air bubbles and ensure a smooth finish.
  5. Set the Chocolate:

    • Place the baking pan with the filled molds in a cool, dry place to set. The ideal temperature is around 65-70°F (18-21°C).
    • Refrigeration will speed up the process, but can sometimes cause the chocolate to bloom (develop a white film). Allow about 1-3 hours for the chocolate to fully harden.
  6. Remove the Chocolate Shapes:

    • Once the chocolate is firm, gently flex the silicone molds to release the shapes. If they are sticking, you can put them in the freezer for a few minutes to help them release easier.

Tips for Success

  • Use Good Quality Chocolate: The better the chocolate, the better the final product will taste.
  • Don't Overheat the Chocolate: Overheated chocolate can become grainy or seize.
  • Ensure Molds are Clean and Dry: Any moisture in the molds can affect the chocolate's texture and appearance.
  • Experiment with Flavors and Decorations: Add nuts, dried fruit, sprinkles, or other decorations to the molds before the chocolate sets.

By following these steps, you can easily create beautiful and delicious chocolate shapes using silicone molds!
