How do I clean Chrome on Mac?

Published in Chrome Browser 2 mins read

To clean Chrome on your Mac, you'll want to clear your browsing data, which includes your history, cookies, cache, and more. Here's how:

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. Click the More button ⋮ (three vertical dots) located in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window.

  3. Navigate to More Tools > Clear browsing data… A new window or tab will appear.

  4. In the "Clear browsing data" window, you will see two tabs: "Basic" and "Advanced".

    • Basic Tab: Allows you to choose a time range (e.g., Last hour, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 4 weeks, All time) and select the types of data you want to clear (Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, Cached images and files).
    • Advanced Tab: Provides more granular control. In addition to the options in the "Basic" tab, you can also clear things like:
      • Download history
      • Passwords and other sign-in data
      • Autofill form data
      • Site settings
      • Hosted app data
  5. Select the time range. Choose the period for which you want to clear data. "All time" will clear everything.

  6. Check the boxes next to the types of data you want to remove. Make sure you understand what each option does before selecting it. For example, clearing cookies will log you out of most websites.

  7. Click the "Clear data" button. Chrome will then clear the selected data.

Clearing your browsing data can help improve Chrome's performance, protect your privacy, and resolve certain website issues. Be mindful of the data you choose to clear, as some actions, like clearing passwords, will require you to re-enter them the next time you visit those sites.
