How Do I Hard Delete Chrome?

Published in Chrome Uninstall 2 mins read

To completely remove Google Chrome from your computer, follow these steps:

  1. Close Chrome: Make sure all Chrome windows and tabs are closed. This includes any background processes.

  2. Access Settings:

    • Windows: Click the Start button, then click on Settings (the gear icon). Then click on Apps.
    • macOS: Drag the Google Chrome application from the Applications folder to the Trash. Then, empty the Trash.
  3. Uninstall Chrome:

    • Windows: Under "Apps & Features", find and click on Google Chrome. Click "Uninstall" and confirm by clicking "Uninstall" again.
    • macOS: This step is already completed by moving the application to the Trash. However, you will still need to remove the profile data, which is covered in step 4.
  4. Delete Browsing Data (Crucial for a Hard Delete):

    • Windows: In the uninstall window, you'll see a checkbox labeled "Also delete your browsing data." Make sure to tick this box. This will remove your profile information, including bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings. Click "Uninstall" to finalize the process.
    • macOS: To delete your browsing data on a Mac, you will need to manually delete the Chrome profile folder. Usually, this is found at: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/. Delete the entire "Chrome" folder. Note that the ~/Library folder is hidden by default. To access it in Finder, press Command + Shift + G and type ~/Library in the "Go to Folder" box.

By following these steps, you'll perform a complete uninstall, removing not only the Chrome application but also your personal browsing data.
