Published in Chromebook Formatting 1 min read

Formatting, or Powerwashing, an ASUS Chromebook will reset it to its factory default settings. Here's how to do it, based on ASUS's official support:

Steps to Powerwash Your ASUS Chromebook

  1. Sign out of your Chromebook. This is a crucial first step before initiating the reset process.

  2. Initiate the Powerwash: Press and hold the following keys simultaneously: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R. This keyboard shortcut will start the reset process.

  3. Restart: After pressing the key combination, a screen will appear. Select the [Restart] option (labeled ③ in ASUS's documentation).

  4. Confirm the Reset: Once the Chromebook restarts, you'll be prompted to confirm the reset. Choose the [Powerwash] option (labeled ④). This confirms that you want to erase all data and settings.

  5. Continue the Process: Finally, select [Continue] (labeled ⑤) to begin the actual reset process. The Chromebook will then erase its data and revert to its original factory settings.

After completing these steps, your ASUS Chromebook will be formatted, and you'll be greeted with the initial setup screen.
