How Do I Reset My Chromebook Admin?

Published in Chromebook Reset 2 mins read

To reset your Chromebook admin, you need to use the Google Admin console. Here's how:

Steps to Reset Chromebook Admin

The following steps will guide you through resetting your Chromebook admin, which includes options for wiping profiles or performing a factory reset.

  1. Log in to the Admin console: Access the Google Admin console using your administrator account credentials.

  2. Navigate to Devices: Once logged in, go to the "Devices" section within the console.

  3. Select Chrome Devices: In the Devices menu, choose the option that specifically lists "Chrome" devices.

  4. Filter and Locate the Device: Filter the list to find the specific Chromebook you need to reset. Once found, click on its serial number to access its detailed device page.

  5. Choose Reset Option: On the device's detail page, you will find two options:

    • Wipe Profiles: This option will remove all user profiles and data stored on the Chromebook, essentially resetting it to a state where users need to log in again.
    • Factory Reset: This option will return the device to its original factory settings, removing all user data, settings and device configurations.
  6. Select the appropriate reset option: Choose between "Wipe Profiles" and "Factory Reset" depending on your needs.

Additional Information

  • The option you select depends on what you want to achieve. If you simply need to clear user data, "Wipe Profiles" is sufficient. If you need to completely reset the device to its default state, then opt for "Factory Reset".
  • Ensure that you understand the impact of each option, especially factory reset, which permanently deletes all device data and settings.
  • You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these actions.
  • For more detailed information on device management, see your Google Workspace documentation.
