How do I disable the lock in my Chromebook?

Unfortunately, you cannot completely disable the screen lock on your Chromebook. A password, usually your Gmail password, is required to unlock the device.

Here's why and what options you have:

  • Security Feature: The screen lock is a fundamental security feature designed to protect your data if your Chromebook is lost or stolen. Disabling it entirely would expose your information to unauthorized access.

  • Gmail Account Requirement: Your Chromebook is linked to your Google account (Gmail). The password you use to log into your Google account is also used to unlock your Chromebook.

  • What You Can Adjust (Instead of Disabling):

    • Change the Password: If you're unhappy with your current password, you can change it by going to your Google Account settings (Gmail Support). This will affect all Google services linked to that account.

    • Adjust the Lock Screen Delay: You can set how long your Chromebook needs to be idle before it automatically locks. This is the closest you can get to "disabling" the lock, but it doesn't remove the need for a password/PIN/Smart Lock entirely.

      • To change the screen lock delay:
