CCPI stands for Climate Change Performance Index.

The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) is an independent monitoring tool that tracks the climate protection performance of 63 countries and the EU, which together are responsible for more than 90% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Published annually since 2005, the CCPI aims to enhance transparency in international climate politics and enables comparison of climate protection efforts and progress made by individual countries.

The CCPI assesses countries' performance in four categories:

  • GHG Emissions (40%): Evaluates a country's greenhouse gas emissions levels and trends.
  • Renewable Energy (20%): Assesses the deployment and development of renewable energy sources.
  • Energy Use (20%): Examines a country's energy consumption patterns and efficiency.
  • Climate Policy (20%): Evaluates a country's national and international climate policy framework and implementation.

Each category contains several indicators, which are weighted to produce an overall score for each country. The CCPI results are presented in a ranking table, with countries grouped into performance categories ranging from "Very High" to "Very Low". No country has yet achieved a "Very High" rating, highlighting the significant challenges remaining in addressing climate change.

The CCPI is jointly published by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute, and the Climate Action Network. It serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and the public to understand the relative progress of different countries in tackling climate change and to identify areas where further action is needed.
