To trim (crop) the canvas in Clip Studio Paint, use the following steps:
-
Select the Selection Tool: Choose the [Selection] tool, specifically the [Rectangle] sub-tool. You can usually find it in the toolbox.
-
Define the Crop Area: With the [Rectangle] selection tool active, click and drag on the canvas to draw a rectangle around the portion of the image you want to keep. Everything outside this rectangle will be trimmed away.
-
Execute the Crop: Go to the [Edit] menu and select [Crop]. This will remove everything outside the selected rectangle, effectively trimming the canvas to your desired size.
Alternatively, you can use the following method which keeps the original image intact, creating a crop that acts more like a mask:
- Create a Selection: Use the same [Rectangle] selection tool described above to define the area you want to keep.
- Create a New Raster Layer create a new raster layer to act as a mask.
- Fill the selected Area use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill the selected area to mask.
- Click the Layer Mask Icon create a layer mask
This second method will allow you to hide parts of the image, which can then be brought back by editing the mask and unhiding the original content, as long as you don't merge layers.
