How to Copy and Paste Images on Clip Studio Paint?

Published in Clip Studio Paint 2 mins read

To copy and paste images in Clip Studio Paint, you primarily use the Edit menu.

Here's a breakdown of the process:

Copying Images

The method you use to copy depends on what you want to copy:

  • Specific Object: If you want to copy a specific object on a layer:

    1. Select the [Object] tool.
    2. Click on the object you want to copy.
    3. The selected object is now ready to be copied to the clipboard.
  • Selection Area: If you have a specific area selected:

    1. Create a selection using one of the selection tools (e.g., Lasso, Rectangle selection).
    2. The selected area is now ready to be copied to the clipboard.
  • Entire Layer: If no object or selection is active, copying will copy the entire layer:

    1. Make sure no selection is active. You can deselect using Select > Deselect or Ctrl+D.

Pasting Images

After copying, pasting is straightforward:

  1. Go to the [Edit] menu.
  2. Select [Paste]. This will paste the content from the clipboard onto a new layer.

Important Considerations:

  • New Layer: Pasting will always create a new layer for the copied content.
  • Raster vs. Vector: The behavior might slightly differ depending on whether you are copying and pasting raster or vector content. Generally, raster images will be pasted as a new raster layer, and vector images as a new vector layer.
  • Pasting in Place: Clip Studio Paint does not have a "paste in place" option like some other software. The pasted content is positioned in the center of the canvas by default. You'll need to reposition it using the Object tool or Move tool.
