How to Measure Sleeve Length?

Published in Clothing Measurement 2 mins read

To accurately measure sleeve length, you'll need a flexible measuring tape and a friend to help. Follow these steps for the most precise measurement:

Steps to Measure Sleeve Length:

  1. Find the Center Back: Locate the center back of the neck where your spine is. This is the starting point for the first measurement.

  2. Measure from Center Back to Shoulder: Measure from the center back of the neck to the end of your shoulder bone (the bony point at the top of your arm). This is typically where a shirt shoulder seam would sit.

  3. Measure from Shoulder to Wrist: Measure from the end of your shoulder down the outside of your arm, past your elbow, to just past your wrist bone. This endpoint should be where you want your shirt cuff to typically sit.

  4. Total Sleeve Length: Add the two measurements together to get your total sleeve length.

In Summary:

  • Measurement 1: Center back of neck to shoulder.
  • Measurement 2: Shoulder to desired cuff position (just past wrist bone).
  • Total Sleeve Length: Sum of Measurement 1 and Measurement 2.

Why is Accurate Sleeve Length Important?

  • Comfort: A well-fitting sleeve allows for comfortable movement and prevents restriction.
  • Appearance: Correct sleeve length contributes to a polished and well-proportioned look.
  • Functionality: The right length ensures the cuff sits properly, especially with button-down shirts or jackets.
