What is the nickname for clouds?

Published in Cloud Naming System 1 min read

There isn't one specific nickname for clouds. However, the names we use to classify clouds often incorporate prefixes like Cirro-, Alto-, Strato-, Nimbo-, and Cumulo-, which refer to their height, shape, and whether they produce precipitation. For example, "Cirrus" clouds are wispy and high, while "Cumulus" clouds are fluffy and low. These descriptive names are based on a system developed by Luke Howard in 1802, which is still largely used today.
