How is Coffee Grown for Kids?

Published in Coffee Cultivation 2 mins read

Coffee is grown on trees! Here's a simplified explanation of how it happens, perfect for kids:

  • Flowers Bloom: It all starts with beautiful white flowers on coffee trees. Imagine tiny, sweet-smelling blossoms covering the branches!

  • Cherries Grow: After the flowers fade, little green coffee cherries (or berries) start to grow. Think of them like miniature fruits, similar to cherries you might eat.

  • Beans Inside: Inside each coffee cherry are usually two coffee beans. These are the special seeds that will eventually become the coffee we drink.

  • Cherries Ripen: The green cherries slowly turn red as they ripen, just like other fruits! Only the ripe, red cherries are picked.

  • Harvest Time: Farmers carefully pick the ripe red cherries from the trees.

  • Processing the Cherries: The cherries are then processed to remove the pulp (the fruity part) and get to the coffee beans inside.

  • Drying the Beans: The coffee beans are dried in the sun.

  • Roasting the Beans: Once dried, the beans are roasted, which is like baking them. This is what gives coffee its delicious smell and taste.

  • Grinding and Brewing: Finally, the roasted beans are ground into a powder and brewed with hot water to make a tasty cup of coffee!

So, from tiny white flowers to a warm cup of coffee, it's quite a journey!
