How do you tell your colors?

Published in Color Analysis 2 mins read

The question "How do you tell your colors?" can refer to two different things: determining your skin's undertone or identifying your seasonal color palette.

Determining Your Skin Undertone

To determine your skin undertone, you can look at the color of your veins or perform the "white t-shirt test."

  • Vein Test: Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist. Blue veins indicate a cool undertone, green veins suggest a warm undertone, and a mix of both suggests a neutral undertone.
  • White T-Shirt Test: Put on a plain white t-shirt and stand in natural light. If your skin appears pink or rosy, you have a cool undertone. If it appears peachy or yellow, you have a warm undertone. If it appears neutral with no obvious pink or yellow, you have a neutral undertone.

Identifying Your Seasonal Color Palette

Once you know your skin undertone, you can determine your seasonal color palette. There are four main color palettes: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

  • Spring: Warm undertones with golden, yellow, or peachy skin. Hair colors range from light blonde to warm brown with golden highlights. Eye colors include blue, green, or hazel.
  • Summer: Cool undertones with pale, pink, or olive skin. Hair colors range from light blonde to ash brown with cool undertones. Eye colors include blue, gray, or green.
  • Autumn: Warm undertones with golden, olive, or reddish-brown skin. Hair colors range from red to dark brown with warm tones. Eye colors include green, hazel, or amber.
  • Winter: Cool undertones with fair, porcelain, or olive skin. Hair colors range from black to very dark brown. Eye colors include dark blue, black, or brown.

After determining your basic skin tone (warm or cool), consider the color of your hair and eyes. This will further help you identify your seasonal color palette and the colors that best suit your complexion.
