The world's first computer virus, known as Brain, was discovered in 1986. It was created by two brothers, Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi, who ran a computer shop in Pakistan. Brain was designed to protect their software from being copied and spread through floppy disks. It was a boot sector virus that infected the boot sector of floppy disks.
While Creeper, a self-replicating program created in 1971, is often considered the first virus, it was actually designed as a security test to see if self-replication was possible. It was not malicious in intent and did not spread widely.
Brain, on the other hand, was intentionally created to be malicious and spread quickly. It quickly became a global phenomenon, infecting millions of computers worldwide. It marked the beginning of the era of computer viruses.
