A concrete pump truck is a specialized vehicle used to transport liquid concrete from a ready mix truck or batching plant to a specific location on a construction site, particularly for places that are difficult to reach directly. It uses a powerful pump mechanism to push the concrete through a series of pipes mounted on an articulated boom.

Key Components of a Concrete Pump Truck

Concrete pump trucks combine several crucial components:

The Pumping Mechanism

Inside the pump, a system of pistons draws concrete from the hopper into one cylinder while simultaneously pushing concrete out of the other cylinder into the pipeline that runs along the boom. A critical component, often referred to as a valve or 'rock valve', alternates which cylinder is connected to the hopper and which is connected to the output pipe.
