An asphalt paver works by receiving asphalt material from a dump truck, moving forward, and then distributing and spreading the material onto the surface.
The Paving Process Explained
Based on how the equipment operates, the process can be broken down into a few key steps:
- Material Loading: The first step involves a dump truck filling the paver's hopper with asphalt. This hopper is located at the front of the paver.
- Forward Movement: As the operator begins to use the equipment and it starts to move forward, the paving process begins.
- Material Transfer: Inside the paver, feeder conveyors transfer the material from the hopper at the front to the back of the paver. These conveyors ensure a continuous flow of asphalt.
- Material Distribution: At the back, distribution augers move the asphalt out. These augers spread the asphalt evenly across the width being paved, preparing it for compaction.
In essence, the paver acts as a mobile machine that receives, conveys, and spreads asphalt mix precisely where needed for roads, parking lots, and other surfaces.
