How to Remove Background in CorelDRAW X3?

Published in CorelDraw Graphics 2 mins read

To remove a background in CorelDRAW X3, you can effectively use the PowerClip feature. Here's how:

  1. Select the Original Image: Begin by selecting the image you want to remove the background from within your CorelDRAW X3 document.

  2. Create an Outline (if needed): If you want precise background removal, draw a vector outline around the portion of the image you want to keep. This outline will serve as the frame for the PowerClip. Ensure the outline is a closed object. You can use tools like the Bezier tool or the Freehand tool for this.

  3. Apply the PowerClip:

    • Go to the menu: Object > PowerClip > Place Inside Frame.
    • Your cursor will change to an arrow.
    • Click on the Outline: Use the arrow to click on the vector outline you created. This will place the image inside the frame.
  4. Edit PowerClip Contents (if necessary): If the image isn't positioned correctly within the PowerClip frame, you can edit its contents.

    • Right-click on the PowerClipped object.
    • Select Edit PowerClip.
    • Now you can move, resize, or adjust the image within the frame.
    • When finished, Right-click again and select Finish Editing This Level.
  5. Finalize: Your image now has the background effectively removed, using the shape of your outline. You can now optionally delete the outline itself if you only needed it for defining the PowerClip area.

In summary: Using PowerClip in CorelDRAW X3 allows you to place an image inside a shape, effectively "cropping" it and thus removing the unwanted background based on the shape of your outline.
